최상급 강조

비교급 강조는 많이들 아는데 최상급 강조는 많이 나오지 않는다. 하지만 독해할 때 알아두면 유용하니 한번 집고 가보자.

 

우선 비교급 강조 복습을 해보고 최상급 강조를 공부해 보자.

 

 

1. 비교급 강조

 

비교급 앞에 " much, far, a lot, even, little, far "를 넣어서 비교급을 강조할 수 있다. 이때 해석은

" much, far, a lot, even, little, far " => 훨씬

 

ex) 민수 is much taller than 주형.  민수는 주형이보다 훨씬 크다.

 

 

2. 최상급 강조 (1)

 

최상급 앞에 " even, still, quite, by far, simply "를 넣어서 최상급을 강조할 수 있다. 이때 해석은

" even (심지어는) , still(여전히), quite(정말로), by far(단연코), simply(그야말로), far and away(단연코) "이다.

: 모두 단연, 단연코로 해석가능

 

 

ex) She is (                ) the most beautiful in the world.

 최상급 앞자리에 들어간다.

:  She is (  even   ) the most beautiful in the world. 그녀는 단연코 세상에서 제일 아름답다.

 

 

3. 최상급 강조(2) 

 

최상급 앞에 " very, single "를 넣어서 최상급을 강조할 수 있다. 이때 해석은

" very (가장) , single(유일한)이다.

 

ex) She is the (                 ) most beautiful in the world.

the 다음에 들어간다.

: She is the (  very, single  ) most beautiful in the world. 그녀는 세상에서 유일한 가장 아름답다.

 

 

4. 예를 들어보자

 

1) She is by far the most talented musician I've ever heard.

그녀는 내가 들어본 것 중에선 확실히 가장 재능 있는 음악가다

 

2) It was quite simply the best meal I've ever eaten in my life.

그것은 매우 단연코 내 인생에서 먹어본 가장 좋은 식사였다.

 

3) Mount Everest is still the tallest mountain in the world.

에베레스트 산은 여전히 세계에서 가장 높은 산이다.

 

4) He is even the smartest person in our entire department.

그는 심지어 우리 부서 전체에서 가장 똑똑한 사람이다.

 

5) This book is far and away the most interesting one I've read this year.

이 책은 올해 내가 읽은 책 중에서 단연코 가장 흥미로운 책이다.
